About the Flynn Fund
|
Just as our student-athletes have stepped up on the field, in the classroom, and in the community, so too has the financial support of our alumni, parents and friends. In 1998, athletic donations totaled approximately $3.6M. Just 10 years later, in 2007, your generous support has totaled $19M, which assists us in providing opportunities for our student-athletes to be a part of, and experience the wonderful community that is Boston College.
In addition to funding scholarships, the Flynn Fund has supported countless facility improvements over the years. The football program moved into the $27 million Yawkey Athletics Center in 2005. This 72,000 square foot facility, which also houses the Office of Learning Resources for Student-Athletes, was the first building on the Boston College campus to be funded entirely through private support.
In recent memory, many areas of Conte Forum have been updated and renovated as well. The women's and men's basketball programs have both moved into new suites while many of our Olympic Sport staff members and coaches enjoy new offices. The women's lacrosse and field hockey teams welcomed the construction of a new turf field on the Newton Campus in 2005. We were also fortunate to install FieldTurf, a state-of-the-art synthetic grass-like surface, in Alumni Stadium. There have been so many recent changes and upgrades and yet there are still more to come. Beginning next summer we will break ground on the construction of brand new, state-of-the-art facilities for baseball, softball, and men's and women's tennis on the newly acquired Brighton Campus.
With all of this in mind, please accept our sincere thanks for your unwavering support throughout the years! We must continue to rely on the generous efforts of alumni, parents, and friends of Boston College if the University is to remain a special place for future generations of student-athletes and fans.
