The 14th-ranked women's soccer defeated Dartmouth College, 2-1, in the first round of the NCAA tournament, hosted by the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. Junior co-captain Jenny Maurer and classmate Molly Dane assisted on each other's goals as the Eagles advanced to the second round, to be played on Saturday, Nov. 12 at noon. The Eagles will face Boston University in a rematch from the season opener where the Eagles took the 2-0 win. The Eagles now stand at 12-5-2 overall.
Boston College went up in the 30th minute of the match when Maurer sent a pass from the side of the 18-yard box to Dane who nailed it to the upper right post for her fourth goal of the season. Dane now leads the team in goals, while Maurer has six assists on the season, a team high.
On the second goal the roles reversed as Dane assisted on Maurer's second goal of the season. Dane passed from the corner of the 18-yard box to Maurer who sent a beautiful shot to the far left post off her left foot. Maurer's shot was taken from nearly the same spot where Dane scored the first goal of the game. The gamewinner came at 37:42.
Junior goalkeeper Arianna Criscione made a crucial save early in the first half coming off her line to cut off a breakaway by Dartmouth's Christina Ferraris. Criscione made four saves on the night for the win.
Dartmouth would come within one in the 41st minute off a restart. Colleen Kelly took a free kick that found the head of Sarah Johnson, who sent it to the far post.
The Eagles out shot the Big Green, 12-11, while also holding the edge in corner kicks, 4-2. Maurer had a team-high six shots on the night, and three on goal.
The win marks the Eagles seventh overall win in the NCAA tournament and the fourth time they have advanced to at least the second round.

In the first game Boston University defeated the University of Connecticut in the second overtime when Ashley Chassar headed home the game-winner. The Eagles and Terrier's will face each other for the second time this season in the second round to be played at UConn at noon on Saturday, Nov. 12.
